Important Information Regarding Account Setup and Continuing Education
To generate certificates for successful completion of continuing education courses, select “Yes” from the CPE Credits drop-list.
To ensure that continuing education earned is awarded, and if necessary, reported properly, review the following account set up guidelines:
Note: If you view or print the certificate and find that the information on it is not correct, edit
your account accordingly and regenerate (view or print) the CPE certificate.

Account Setup Requirements

Unenrolled or Other Tax Return Preparers who need to report credits earned to the IRS
|
Select “Yes” from the CPE Credits drop list.
Check the Unenrolled/Other tax return preparer? box.
Enter your PTIN in the PTIN field (required). Verify that the name entered in the First Name and
Last Name fields matches the name as it appears on your IRS PTIN account.
Credit earned will be reported to the IRS within 10 days.

Enrolled Agents (EAs)
|
Select “Yes” from the CPE Credits drop list.
Check the Enrolled Agent? box.
Enter your PTIN in the PTIN field (required). Verify that the name entered in the First Name and Last Name
fields matches the name as it appears on your IRS PTIN account.
Credit earned will be reported to the IRS within 10 days.

Certified Public Accountants (CPAs)

Select “Yes” from the CPE Credits drop list.
Check the CPA box.
If applicable, check one of the state specific boxes: Pennsylvania CPA? – If you require credits for renewal
with the Pennsylvania State Board of Accountancy or Texas CPA? – If you require credits for renewal with the
Texas State Board of Accountancy.
CPAs are responsible for reporting continuing education to their state board based on their state regulations. A National
Association of State Boards of Accountancy Certificate (NASBA) is issued to all CPAs, unless Texas is selected or Pennsylvania
is selected for self-study courses.
To have all credits earned reported to the IRS, so they are listed in your IRS PTIN account, enter your PTIN in the
PTIN field. Verify that the name entered in the First Name and Last Name fields matches the name as it appears
on your IRS PTIN account.

California Registered Tax Preparers (CRTPs)
|
Select “Yes” from the CPE Credits drop list.
Enter your California Tax Education Council Preparer Number in the CTEC# field. To also report credits to the IRS,
enter your PTIN in the PTIN field. Verify that the name entered in the First Name and Last Name
fields matches the name as it appears on your IRS PTIN account.
CRTPs receive a CTEC certificate that includes all relevant CTEC and IRS course information.
Credit earned will be reported to the IRS and CTEC within 10 days.
